Hi all. We've been to Fort Walton Beach and Destin and now want to visit someplace different on the panhandle so we're opting for PCB. I've been on VRBO, Air bnb, Booking, etc. and see countless properties. Can anyone give any insight into specific location(s) to stay? If not directly on the beach, close, with access to a not-too-crowded public beach? Probably going in late July or early August for 3 or 4 nights.

This is where I have stayed many times.

Directly on the beach, not crowded, fantastic. Love this place.

Not sure if there is any place on PCB that is not crowded during the times you requested. Probably the least crowded area will be the extreme East end. Seychelles oe Treasure Island condominiums would be a good choice. Book through an owner direct, DO NOT use a property management company.

Thanks Gregg. After thinking about it, I really don't care too much about crowds; I can deal with it. But I wish it were that easy to find some info out. I was at Booking .com and wanted to know why they are showing two different living room pics for a unit in Seychelles. I wanted to book it, but I wanted to know which living room I was getting. Anyway, I got the runaround, jumped through many hoops, and STILL don't know how to contact the owner.

I called Booking, they couldn't even find the listing on their own site which I was staring at while on the phone with them!! So they gave me the number to Seychelles and they told me they only manage 30 units in their own building and gave me a number to a some other property management company so I called them and they said they don't even deal with that building--which I was told by Seychelles that they did! So I called Wyndham and they told me that particular unit isn't on their list either!! My God people, seriously? Lol!

So I don't know where to turn. I'll probably either just rent it (with no cancellation policy in effect) or look someplace else. Do you know if there's a website I can visit where I can contact the actual owners of any rental unit? You're right, these companies are ridiculous.

Booking.com carries the worst properties, owners that are too lazy to do it themselves plus they tend not to keep their places up much less updated. In addition, Booking.com charges the owner 15% which is most often passed on the the guest. Best bet is to use VRBO, look for recent pictures and a bunch of recent reviews. Skip the property managers especially Wyndham, they are the worst!!

Yeah, I agree. I also just stumbled upon another site which looks pretty good ---emeraldcoastbyowner. Rates aren't too bad and there seems to be many more choices and you apparently deal directly with the owner.

VRBO has also jacked up their fees to owners which are passed on to renters. I stopped using them too.

What about HomeAway?
I normally use Airbnb, and intended to use them on my trip to Panama City Beach this summer as well. HomeAway seems to generally have nicer places though.

HomeAway and VRBO are owned by the same parent company. I checked Airbnb and there's some really nice properties there too.
