I guess the exodus wasn't as overwhelming as initially thought. That mass migration has turned around.

"Homebuyers Are Heading to Florida During Covid, but Nearly as Many Are Moving Out"

Florida, it turns out, isn’t for everyone. But you would never know it from the PR coming out of the state.

Amid the pandemic, Florida politicians and real-estate developers have promoted the narrative that hedge-fund execs and tech workers, in search of warm weather and low taxes, are abandoning New York and California en masse and putting down roots in Florida. Miami Mayor Francis Suarez has used Twitter to publicly court Silicon Valley tech moguls, inviting Elon Musk to Miami for a discussion about tunneling under the city. In December, when venture capitalist Delian Asparouhov tweeted a suggestion about moving Silicon Valley to Miami, the mayor retweeted it to his followers with the response, “How can I help?”

Far less discussed, however, is the fact that each year nearly as many people move out of Florida as move in. [...] Between April 2019 and April 2020, the state’s population increased by 1.83%, or 387,479 people. Between April 2020 and April 2021, however, the population is expected to grow by 1.38%, or 297,851 people..

It's not discussed because it's laughably false. Do they think Florida's consistently massive growth rate is from births?

The whole "exodus to Miami (or Florida)" was overhyped in general. MDC has seen net gains of 1.5-2K in 2018/2019 and a lot of people are returning back to NYC or Cali now that vaccine distribution has increased. The PR is good and they can spin it well, but if you look at the data, it's all smoke and mirrors. Plus the whole "Miami Tech" thing lol, it's just the mayor using it as a front for his real estate business (along with bitcoin).

Look at this quote from a Bloomberg article as well

Quote:
“The main problem with moving to Florida is that you have to live in Florida,” said Jason Mudrick, who oversees $3 billion at Mudrick Capital Management and has resided in Manhattan for more than two decades.

“New York has the smartest, most driven people, the best culture, the best restaurants and the best theaters,” he said. “Anyone moving to Florida to save a little money loses out on all of that.”

It's an attractive place to invest, but that's it. Even those who invest don't even want to live there lol. It was all hype in the end, as always.

You have to subscribe to read the story, but I don’t believe any of this to be true. NY centric newspapers have collectively posted articles on this, not ironically released on the same day. The other was from the NY Post, and third from Bloomberg. None of these articles offered statistics. Not one.

It’s the literal definition of fake news.

Not NY centric and not fake news.

"The world-wide pandemic and its accompanying economic fallout continues to color this forecast, with
slower population growth between April 1, 2020 and 2021 (1.38%) than was experienced in the prior
year (1.83%). This is due to both less net-migration and negative natural increase."

The income numbers below are for only one year, 2019. These numbers don't even include things such as businesses and huge bank accounts etc that are moving to Florida. Can you even imagine the amount of wealth that New York is losing to Florida these days because of Covid? The people that don't acknowledge what's been happening for years now are either hating on Florida or just in plain denial. The place is BOOMING.

Where are the stats showing those who relocated to FL from NY are moving back, as reported?

And yes, the three media outlets reporting this are all NY centric newspapers.

That does make sense. I'm sorry but Florida as a whole is not as smart as a mega city like New York City which is one of the largest cities in the world and a hub for just about everything.

I don't like NY in general and the liberals there, however I'm not going to deny as a whole there is much more talent in the NYC area.

FL is not full of Rhodes Scholars.

FL is mainly a service based industry state. You just gotta face it.

I’m going to assume you’re from Missouri based on your posting history, which, statistically, has less people with a bachelor’s degree than Florida. *shrug*
