That was the actual origianl issue.
Leave it to media to turn this into an anti-Desantis/transgender issue. The political bias of the posted article is quite clear.
Don't believe everything you read.
Right. And sports clubs have always asked that parents sign a medical release form, and medical records will contain all of that information.

Indeed, and why now? This opens a door for intrusion into students' lives that goes far beyond sports and will almost certainly be used for more political theatrics and at the expense of students' well-being.

Typical DeSantis playbook, create "problems" and "solve them" while focusing on demographics unable to fight back in numbers.

There's a concept for everything and anything. Concept is a meaningless term.

For a right-wing government, they sure do act like a left wing dictatorship. This is also not surprising from Florida.

When I was still living in Florida, my kids in high-school (Miami-Dade) told me that the state required teachers to listen in to conversations about students who have had sex and report it to the principal. Their rationale was "because they're under 18, they're minors and we want to report them, even if it was consensual". Their friends got suspended or expelled when teachers overheard them (and they would even confiscate phones and read private text messages).

Now the state wants an "option" for girls to disclose when they menstruate to play sports? That's a weird move. I know Florida has a weird obsession (possibly fetish) on what minors are doing or their cycles, but there are other issues to focus on.. such as (but not limited to)

1. Unaffordability
2. Climate change
3. Improving transit (I know public transport is considered "communist" or for "poor" people by right-wingers)
4. Improving safety
5. Not bending the knee to billionaires, while screwing over the working and middle class.

But go ahead Florida, keep banning books, imposing state propaganda and keep obsessing over high school girls/people on their menstrual cycles and what they do in their private lives.

Always has been a thing, and this info is shared with club medical staff/trainers. Young athletes who physically mature faster than others are typically trained differently/at a higher level, including more intense workouts, different nutritional guidelines, etc.

Not everything is about “invasion of privacy” or transgenderism
I have sons and yes they were examined, just like girls but the doctor just signed they were healthy enough to play football. They did not have to put day of puberty on their applications to play sports.

Oh look, a real, actual journalist debunked the latest left wing propaganda/DeSantis smear:

Quote:
Actually, it’s fairly standard for school systems to ask girls about their menstruation on the health forms student-athletes have to fill out. For instance, here’s the New York City form.
Quote:
Those are just the first two liberal cities I thought of in liberal states. I searched for their required student-athlete forms online, and sure enough, they ask the exact same questions the new Florida form asks. This is normal. Maybe it shouldn’t be, I don’t know, but it isn't odd that Florida would require this information — New York and San Francisco do, as do plenty of other cities and states.

What’s going on here is that liberals and journalists are freaking out because of partisanship combined with ignorance. That’s the charitable interpretation. The less charitable interpretation is that they are lying to their readers, trying to make their readers dumber.

So, for all the left wing extremists out there whining about DeSantis - Why aren't you whining about Gavin Newsome and Kathy Hochul? What's the (D)ifference?

In other words - you wouldn't be allowed to play in school sports if you are too embarrassed to put in your student file the fact that you haven't started menstruating yet. There are girls who have hormonal problems or physical anomalies in their reproductive system, who don't ever menstruate even though they are biologically female. It's frankly no one's business but their doctor and their parent if they're a minor, and the HIPAA guidelines are clear about that. This change basically gives schools tacit permission to ignore HIPAA law.

It also means that there can be a very easy witch hunt if certain factions decide "hey - we've heard this girl doesn't menstruate, maybe she's really a boy let's tell the local newspapers!" and a media circus destroys the future of someone who has done absolutely nothing wrong.

Not DeSantis - but Florida. Anyone who has friends/family who live outside Florida will tell you - this is no surprise at all. The "Free State of Florida" is a Fascist state, from the top down.
Another clueless post from Ghaati.

So, since NY and CA ask the same questions, do you think they are "fascist" states, "from the top down"?
