Go a little to the north of Jax Beach and you have the huge Talbot Island area almost to yourself at the cost of a $120/year Florida state parks pass.

The Jacksonville dissing has reached epic proportions. Amelia Island, Neptune Beach, Ponte Vedra Beach among worst in FL....

Terrible in what sense exactly?

Pretty much every sense. In what ways do you consider apartment living preferable or even desirable for a family with children?

When the budget calls for it. Explain how wedging the OP's family of four in a two-bedroom home that's at best in a middle-income neighborhood at $1900 a month, versus a 3/2 apartment in a luxury apartment community with a playground and a pool within a nicer neighborhood while their daughter has the privacy of her own bedroom is better?

This.
I used to own a 4/2 house outside of Orlando (Lake County) and... I actually prefer where I live now, in a very nice apartment community -- as do my kids, and I certainly think it's better for them. Most people who live here have school-aged kids, are married or in partnerships, it is VERY low-crime, there are 3 large pools, tennis courts, a playground, and the schools are highly-rated (by Florida standards.)
I don't see where the "undesirable part" fits in. Not all apartments are grungy and filled with drug abusers and hookers.

I'm looking to move out of here in the near future, and am truly debating between house, condo and apartment. So far, upscale apartment is again taking the cake for many reasons. (The condo would be nice, but it's beachside, and insurance would be hell... As would the potential for catastrophic losses.)

Versus my fiancé's 8-year-old niece in California being asked by her teacher what gender does she want to identify as along with every other kid in her classroom. To me that's crazier than banning a teacher from discussing gender identity. Her niece now says I'm a non-binary lesbian... AN 8-YEAR-OLD, why should an 8-year-old even know those terms. So, I would actually give Florida's education system a pro, not a con.
