We just bought our first home here in Ocala, FL, and due to the drought, parts of the yard were dead, and there seem to be red ants all over the yard! At least they're not in the house. Anyway, does anyone have any good tips to get rid of them? After they attacked my foot I found out the hard way that I'm pretty allergic...

We have a lot here too. This year the ants seem to be immune to whatever ant killer my husband previously used around the yard (something he bought at Home Depot).

Any pet-safe suggestions would be much appreciated.

Default Andro

Or AMDRO, I had red ants all over the yard and every three months I would go and sprinkle this for the first few years we lived here. Now, after 13 years, if I have one ant pile every few years it is surprising because I hardly ever get them anymore.

Now, black ants, another story. I cant keep them from coming in although we spray out and indoors.

if you have them in the house you just put toro all over in small drops. Do it once and then repeat in two weeks and they will be gone.

Read somewhere...that if you spray vinegar...I would use white...around the window frames....door frames...etc....that the ants will not cross over the sprayed areas...I am not sure what it does...but I did pour some around a nest in my yard...and several days later the nest was gone... and if it does not work...you can at least use it to clean the windows...

ghost ants are the teeny tiny ones that you can barely see. They come out at a certain time of day and you find them mainly in the kitchen and bathrooms but once out of control will be seen all over the house. Toro is a liquid sold in a small bottle that you put out a few drops in corners of the room and they attract the ants. It contains a poison to the ants and you will see many dead little ants. It must be repeated two weeks after the first "killing".

Amdro is a larger plastic grey bottle sold in home depot and it is a granule that you can mix in your fertizlier or just put out and sprinkle around the red ant mounds.

Default ghost ants

Yes- we have those, sometimes I see them in the bathroom, near the shower, there are usually only 2 or 3 of them, and I don't see them all the time. I will try your remedy before they get out of control!
Also, I tried the Amdro, but they just seem to keep moving their mounds! It's very frustrating. I am keeping on them though, hopefully I can get them to move over to the neighbor's lawn!
