I love palms too!

I wonder if florida didn`t have palms would as many people move here? I know it sounds silly but alot of people you talk to always say how cool palms are when florida is brought up. My sister lives in Rhode Island and likes me to send pictures of palms.

Beats me where they are. But then, after a year I haven't exactly been EVERYWHERE in Naples.

My neighborhood is chock full of Palm trees, including Cocoanut palms, which have been planted down the street by the neighborhood between the road and the sidewalk. We have a bunch of Palm trees of different varieties in the yard. Cabbage Palms are my least favorite. The Royal? Palms are nice and "self cleaning," which I appreciate. Going to be putting a bottle Palm in soon as well.

We also have a single, really tall cocoanut Palm in the backyard... towers over the house and all other trees on my block... except when it had cocoanuts and leaned from the weight. Had a HUGE crop of cocoanuts though... A couple dozen or more easily. At any rate, it's absolutely beautiful. Though it's my favorite tree in the yard, it did cause anxiety before it was trimmed when it was dropping cocoanuts onto the yard.... had to tell people to keep a eye up when under the tree!

... and no, the "Palm tree" situation is NOT the same "Up North" in either the Carolinas, Alabama, or Mississippi. There are a few, but winters can be tough. I had a Palm tree I planted in my little townhouse yard in Tallahassee die on me in the winter. Very depressing. I had to replace it with a shrub.

One of my Sago palms died of white stuff, and the other one will need to come down before long for a garage addition.

I can't wait to learn all about Florida landscaping. I wondered if Florida had coconuts. I will miss my orchard of fruit trees up North here, and want to plant some fruit trees, etc at the Florida home.

My neighbor has a pineapple palm.....looks good, but you have to be careful of the frond needles. Florida has so many cool looking plants.

It will be fun to go from zone 4 to zone 9.......

Gotta watch those big Florida Oaks.
I just had a huge water Oak removed from the Florida property.
It had tons of Mistletoe in it.
I learned mistletoe is very invasive...it sucks itself on these Oaks and kills them.

Funny thing is, my wife will buy a tiny piece of dried up mistletoe up north here around Christmas, hang it up, and expect kisses when under it.

When the tree came down , I brought her a WHEELBARREL full of it and asked her what THAT would get me......

Sadly, it just got me a smirk...... Oh well.......

OK, back to Palms......

Frank, the sago is actually a fern. The white stuff was most likely scale.
I had a nectarine for several years It only lasted two years after being toppled over by Charlie. The variety we had will bloom even without freezing temps. It had delicious fruit. Our friends as Powell's Nursery in Punta Gorda turned us on to it. So it's possible to have some of the fruit that your accustom to. Finding a good nursery in your area will help you to learn the tricks to a successful landscape here in Florida.

I love palm trees! Those are beautiful trees! I Also love hibiscus, and all the other plants that flower down there year round.

Here are two nice on line sites where you can order, and view different types of palm trees - Check them out! They are beautiful.

Someone told me that more people are killed by falling coconuts than shark attacks! I know I don't have to worry, my wife is always telling me how hard my head is. . .

Hey Frank, can you send me some mistletoe - I need all I can get! LOL
