We're weighing our options on homes for sale. Some have pools, some do not. IF we choose a house w/out a pool, and wanted to put one in some day down the road, how much would that run us? AND, how the heck would you get a backhoe between those houses to get to the back of the house anyway?? Some of them are packed in there pretty tight!!

It really depends on lots of different factors. If you buy a home with very little space it will cost extra to get smaller machinery in to build the pool.

In general it costs less to buy a house with a pool than it does to buy a house and then put in a pool.

I've seen many of the local pool builders advertising pools for $19K and built in 60 days. I'm guessing it would depend on the size of the pool and decking, so if you figured in 25K just to be safe I would think you should be good.

They're looking for work like many in the construction trade. I'd definitely shop around. Casa Pool in Port Charlotte have been around for over 20 years and have a good reputation. I'd be pretty careful and surely ask for references since I've seen many of them go out of business lately.

The issue with the homes being close might be a problem. If it's a zero lot line situation you be out of luck but other than that I'm sure they would have some way of putting getting the equipment back there. If someone is interested in putting in a pool I always have my pool guy from Casa come out and take a look. Often times he can pull the plans from the county and have something drawn up. He does this for me even if my buyers are not looking to use his services right away. Then you will know that you can fit a pool in and he will hopefully have a customer down the road sometime.

I added a pool to a house a few years back. The pool I had built was 30'x15', the deck was 30' x 50'.
The pool depth was 3' to 6'. The side set back clearanced was 7.5 ft. The pool package with concrete pavers decking, equipment, concrete equipment pad, heat pump, and electrical was just under $30k. The screen cage to enclose the entire deck was $9,600.
