Hi All,
We live n. of orlando and are considering moving either to Huntsville, AL or to Gainesville, FL. We love our community and love our house, plus the friends we have met are great. Unfortunately the cost of living here is crazy. Huntsville, AL is a lot cheaper but we are still considering downsizing to a smaller home in Gainesville (Alachua County) but it's still Fla. We currently live in Winter Springs. Our house is going on the market tomorrow. We can take the $ from the sale of the home and put a good downpayment on a home in Huntsville or a small home in Gainesville. I worry thought about the cost of living in Gainesville. Excuse my ignorance but would insurance still be high because it's still Fla or would it be a little cheaper because Gainesville is more inland? What about property taxes how are these calculated there? We paid approx. $4800 for a 2500 sq ft home. In Gainesville if we have a 1900 sq ft home how would this be calculated? What about utilities? Anyone know if they are cheaper in Gainesville. We've already picked the community that we would live in for Gainesville and Huntsville, so it really comes down to the $.
Thanks so much for any input.

It looks like the millage is 23.2009 to 27.7332. My home in Polk county is 195 purchase price, pay taxes on 169.000 - homestead 25,000 = 144,000 x millage= 2448.00 for polk county. 144 x 27.7332=3993.00 in most expensive area. in Gainsville. So quite a bit higher.
