Government-based industries have a reputation for being the most inefficient and also the least innovative. They are also strictly quota based, which means that they are forced to hire hood people. (Especially in South Florida) I would have ZERO confidence in TRi-Rail to manage itself again...

Throwing money at this problem will not make it go away. See if anyone wants to competetively bid on Tri-Rail management rights, maybe we would get lucky and have a taker.

K-12, libraries, police, fire, some sidewalks, and USPS are used by EVERYONE. I have no problem wiht funding items that are used by--or accessible to--everyone. Mass transit is not. Why should someone in Anyville pay for a transit system in Miami when they don't have mass transit available to them in Anyville?

The maintenance of most sidewalks is actually the responsibility of the person whose property the sidewalk is on or directly adjacent to.

I agree that a public private partnership might help. It works in Brazil

Obviously the Tri-Rail is a sorry excuse for modern transport in a developed country, and the US ruling classes still stubbornly insist on allocating massive resources to gasoline-powered cars and highways, yet it is better than nothing, so I signed the petition anyway.

The US ruling classes should take lessons from their cultural superiors in Japan and Europe: the Tri-Rail should run more often, like every 30 minutes, including weekends, and should feature bullet trains every two hours or so (more often during rush hours), connecting WPB, Boca Raton, Ft. Lauderdale and Miami, in a matter of 30 minutes.

Never mind, pull funding and let's allocate more resources, including human lives, to fighting more oil wars, easier to understand, right?

I saw a show on mass transit in Europe and Asia and I have to say, America = below a developing country in relation to mass transit. Wasnt always like that though. The oligarchs helped to dismantle our system

There is a video on youtube that shows with documentation how Ford, GM and Chrysler single handedly went around the country buying up street car systems that made getting around most cities easy and dismantled them in order to push buses (which they made and which are inferior to train) and to push their cars. One of the few that still exist from back then is the one in San Fran. If you go to the S. Florida history museum in Downtown Miami you can still see one of the old street cars from back then along with pictures showing you how it was back then. We the American people have been had.

Tri rail is underrated. It's not as bad as people think. Any commuter rail that can take someone 65+ miles through a WHOLE entire metropolitan area isn't that bad. I understand it's a little slow, but thats what they need to change, and but bullet trains like someone said earlier. But other then that, it's allright.
