Who is required to have this? How much does it run. I am looking at moving to Florida and this just popped in my head.

Hurricane (Wind) insurance is part of your homeowners. Your mortgage company will require it. It has a high deductible that's based a state determind formula. How much your home insurance is will be determined by the value and age of your home, they tpe of roof it has, how close you are to the ocean/gulf, as well as things like how close you are to a fire hydrant/station, the types of dogs you ahve, etc.

All homeowners insurance policies have hurricane coverage.
The deductible is higher for damage from a named storm but usually 2% of the policy coverage.
If you have a $200,000 policy the normal deductible could be from $500-$2500 for anything but a hurricane. The higher the deductible the lower your premium. The hurricane deductible would be ($200,000X2%) $4000.

Mike--that isn't true. If you own the home free and clear you can opt for a homeowners policy with no wind damage coverage in Florida.

This is a good site to get an idea of rates in different counties. Remember within a countyrates will vary by location. Click the green area in the center of the page that opens then select the county you are interested in. This is a good way to select companies to get quotes from. The site is run by the state of Florida.
