Maybe now that the worst oil disaster in the history of mankind has come home to roost on our door step. People will be less apathetic and more willing to confront the issue of our oil usage and its impact on the eco-system in honesty, instead of turning a blind eye and treating it as a resource that is worth the risk.
It doesn't really matter what happens or how bad it really is. Wholesalers will not buy anything from that area in the near or even distant future. The perception becomes the reality regardless.

The tourists will also stay away in droves, this is like a bad dream that we cannot wake up from.

I understand that ocean currents are not theoretical. I was just trying to offer some tempering to the idea that the oil was going to be in the Keys in 24 hours (from the original posting of the Gulf Current threat). The NOAA is currently not forecasting any movement toward the Gulf Current for the next 3 days. A lot of the initial reports were claiming that there would be (as in, fact) oil on the east coast in 24 hours. From this point (a day or two later), the NOAA is predicting no movement toward the Gulf Current during their next 72 hour forecast. So almost a week after everyone became very concerned with the Gulf Current threat, there is no forecast for oil to enter (yet).

Source? Everything I've read says that the next 72 hours of forecast have it staying clear of the loop for now.
