Due to Naturen commenting the opposite of what others were saying, I did some fact checking online.

And guess what I found? 1) There are a lot of people who say that if you bury fruit in rice it will ripen faster. And 2) there are a lot of people who say that if you bury fruit in rice it will slow down ripening. And 3) there are some people who say both things, right in the same post!

Digging a little deeper I found that in some cultures it was said to be traditional for fruits that were delicate and easily bruised when ripe, like mangoes, to be buried in bins of rice to cushion them as they were brought to market. And that might be mistaken for trying to ripen them, or for trying to keep them from over-ripening, depending on your belief system. Or maybe they just did it because they had learned to do that from their parents, but didn't know why.

Soooooo, I rate this one as: INCONCLUSIVE. Time to do some testing.

Well this is a neat tip - thank you OP! I hate it when my fruit ripens too fast before I get a chance to eat it.
