So, I spent most of yesterday at home working as usual. Early in the day I put some meat in a crock pot and throughout the day I added spices and veggies. By the end of the day it was an Indian curry dish. About 4pm I threw in the remaining contents of an old spice can "whole cumin seed." About 5pm I looked in my tasty all-day creation, and the cumin seeds looked suspicious, like maybe if I had a magnifying glass they might have little insect legs under them. What would you do?
Better safe then sorry! Although such strange things are known to be packed full of nutrition... But just the thought of it would leave me sick for weeks. I'd vote to throw out.

I'd call Hong Kong Chang's for some take out.
Edit: Got the name from a chinese food restaurant name generator.

I just did some web research on cumin seed and they do look like bugs. I usually use my jar of ground seeds and this spice can was old; thought I'd just finish it off. From now and forever, I will always buy ground cumin seed!
So, this is what I did. I thought about that my son eats crawfish (ewww!) which is just a mudbug and in many cultures bugs are edible. I just couldn't decide b/c the dish was so aromatic and tasty. So, I fished out the seeds as best as I could. I served it to my DH who loved the meal. I could barely choke down a few forkfuls, tho. This morning I am feeling guilty about serving it..... but after googling, I'm pretty certain it was in fact just cumin seeds. Lesson here: I'm not in the majority and I will never again serve a meal I am uncertain about.
If you dont want that to happin again but are happy with the results, just grind the cumin seeds after you toast them (if you toast them).
To put your mind at ease toss the ones you have and go buy new ones..
How can cumin seeds morph into bugs? Seriously ...
Cumin seeds are not the sort of thing that little critters would find tasty.
