stone-ground: ^^^ Same for me AND most of the vacuum sealed plastic bags with zip - you cut off the top, open the zip and under the zip, there is another part of the bag hot sealed together, really hard to rip apart ! Sometimes I have to cut off all of it, just to get into the product inside. Real PITA!
I've an old butter knife I use..I insert the tip under the lid's lip, next to the glass, and turn the butter knife until I hear the "whoosh" that says the vacuum has been broken and then the lid turns easily after that.
I prefer to use what I have on-hand instead of purchasing some special tool/accessory.
The last time I couldn't get a jar open, I asked my neighbor.
