The reason why strawberries have so many pesticides is that there is a pesticide in each dimple.

I wash my apples, oranges. peaches, nectarines, and even melons with dish soap before I eat it. Too many hands touching it. I rinse spinach, cherries, and strawberries for a long time but I think I'll try soaking them in vinegar instead. That's a great tip no kudzu.

Thanks for a lighter side to this thread. I think some people might go a little overboard worrying about fresh fruits. I am never going to wash my melons with soap and water. For those who do, good for them. I do intend on paying a little more attention to washing before using.

I do have to wonder how our parents handled the problems? Mine never paid much attention to washing produce. Of course there wasn't as many pesticides out there, but there certainly were some plus people still touched produce with their hands?.

Default Pesticide Use And The Food We Eat

Earlier I posted a comment on the topic about baked potatoes being used used when making potato salad.

The topic eventually talked about using peeled pototates vs unpealed potatoes.

I wrote this, 35 pesticide residues found by the USDA. I wrote this is why I peel my potatoes.

What’s On My Food :: Pesticides on Blueberries

I would like to expand on the use of pesticide use starting with blueberries. Blueberries were another to have multiple pesticides on them.

The Dangers of Pesticides on Blueberries | Home Guides | SF Gate

Some stuff you can peel. You can wash them. You can buy organic. But everyone cannot afford organic.

List of allowed pesticides on organic food.

So what to do? Wash, wash, soak, peel and hope for the best.

I use a produce cleaner and clean my produce. Potatoes I scrub with the scratchy part of the sponge.

also consider.... not just pesticides you need to worry about,,,but whats the veggies being grown in??

you go to a farm and they spread manure in the gardens for fertilizer,,it rains,,,the feces splatter all over the plants ....so you have crap everywhere,,
when being picked,,,good chance feces is one the pickers hands..

so wash your veggies and fruits,,,,

even organics have pesticides,
