We always just got out the Coleman Campstove and set it up on the porch, and cooked whatever we wanted, without heating up the kitchen.

I actually hate grilling. If it's super hot out, the last thing in the world I want is to be standing by a hot grill.

I had a few people over for an outdoor lunch and it was very hot, and I had just seen a cookbook with a recipe for cucumber dill soup, so I made that for the first time and it was really nice. Don't make my mistake though and grab vanilla yogurt by accident. I just added extra lemon juice to offset the vanilla taste.

I would also recommend things like hummus, olives, stuffed grape leaves, I love that stuff.

Cold soups are great. They are delicious, refreshing and ... hydrating

Well, actually she is right. I would not want to be outside by 105+F, cooking or not!

I agree- I'm not a fan of cook outs when it's too hot! (I want to be as far away from heat and the outdoors as possible in 100+ weather!).

Slow Cookers and Rice Cookers though I'll agree are a godsend. Even though we don't normally think of 'Summer Food' coming from a Slow Cooker, you can put together incredible dishes without slaving over a hot stove! Vegetable Soups are usually light enough to be enjoyed on a Summer's day anyhow

My mom always made taco salad...if my menfolk would eat it I would be making it myself. I will do anything that cooks up quick on the stove top. I use the toaster oven a lot when it is this hot.
