What type of bread do you prefer, white, whole wheat or something else?

I prefer whole wheat, or very occasionally homemade white bread, as I've never had a store bought white bread that I like.

I'm always reminded of this quote by Julia Child: “How can a nation be called great if its bread tastes like kleenex?”, when I eat store bought white bread.

I have always thought that white bread tastes like an edible napkin. Whole grain for me, the more grains the better.

I have recently switched to true sourdough bread (made with a starter, not yeast). Not only do I love the taste, but it is healthier for diabetics. I never did like that spongy white stuff anyway. I have started baking this bread myself. It's not hard, just time consuming.

Thank you very much for the good word on the 'healthier for diabetics' bread, gypsychic!
I didn't know that!

I love rye bread. Unfortunately for my bread loving husband, he was diagnosed with Celiac Disease five years ago. You oughta try finding a good gluten free bread! Not in my lifetime....

A good multi-grain or a good rye are my favorites. I grew up on that Wonder bread stuff and just cannot go near it now.
