Never heard of that, but my Mom made boiled rice in milk with sugar...
oh, so did my mom. I don't know where you were raised but I sometimes think these things are pretty regional. My parents, one born in Ok and one in Kansas were pretty much raised in Colorado..

So did mine! We used leftover rice for breakfast -- hot, with milk and sugar. And my background is Philadelphian, although my Mom's family was originally from Maryland.

My Mom was from Brooklyn, my Dad from Jersey City. I really think it had to due with the time in which they were raised. My parents were born in 1927, and 1929.....depression era.
We had fried fish and it was disgusting. I don't remember complaining about it, though. We ate what was there. Fried fish at DH's house, too. Some people have no creativity
I grew up in an Italian household and many of our dishes were pata anyway's, so lent wasn't difficult as far as meals.
We would have beans & macaroni, linguini & clam sauce, tuna cakes & once in awile we would have a tuna noodle casserole, not often though.
Manynof the churches and restaurants where I lived ( Western NY) had and still do serve fish frys on Fridays. Fried haddock or other fish, baked potatoes, coleslaw & Italian bread...

Yup, same here. I was born and raised in SE PA, just north of the Delaware line. We also had it for dessert.
Fish sticks or Gorton's fish filets with Kraft Mac and Cheese. Sometimes a tuna casserole thrown in. Belch, so boring.
Sometimes my Dad would make potato pancakes and one time he made homemade pierogies. I wish he had done that more often.
I lurve pierogi, but they are a lot of work. Next time we go to the Amish market, I might pick some up, carbs be damned.
