I'm with you guys on the Hellman's. But, I've heard Duke's is good, too - maybe I'll try it eventually.
A med size jar of Hellman's was $4.99 @ my local Publix last week (I only buy it there when its BOGO). I bought the same size jar @ Super Walmart for $3.49 or 3.79.
Same goes over here. I go grocery shopping with my mom every week and we go to two different super markets. One is cheaper and we always buy the basics like potatoes, pasta, some kinds of cheese, onions, etc. In the second super market we buy all the specialties, fresher veggies, meat, yogurt etc.
We spend about 120-160 USD per week for 4 plus one baby.
It's a shame that food is that expensive and that you have to pay so much for trying to live as healthy as possible!
Today I took something out of the freezer. DH will have goulash and pasta and I will have some bread and a yogurt after my step aerobic class. So nothing special for today.
I agree - groceries have gone through the roof. I can still sometimes find good sales, but that means getting out to get them. Unfortunately, I am not able to do that as often as I would like and more often than not, I grocery shop online and have it delivered. This is particularly painful since the online selection is limited and a moderate percentage of the weekly specials do not apply there, so it costs mega buckaroos for this service. I try to get out at least once/week but even when I feel well enough to do so, I can only hit one store at most and usually opt for the fresh fruit/vege market. Fortunately, they also sell a limited amount of very fresh meat and fish. Sometimes their sales are excellent and other times not so much.
I'm in the mood for some good ole comfort food, so tonight I'm making chicken and rice.
Well, I actually came out UNDER~ Went to Aldi's so I purchased a large majority there... spent $38 and got chicken breast and shrimp, cereal, breads, salad mix, almost all of my canned goods...and more... Didn't purchase even 2/3 the amount I did at Aldi's when I went to Wegmans and I came out spending $65 there.... I don't like to buy a lot of my produce at Aldi's- just cukes and peppers really... that was where most of my bill came from... I like the local produce Wegmans brings in... but the COST!!!!
I did get a pork loin on special today from Wegmans that I am going to cook up for tonight... with spinach and Prov Chs in the center... two giant pc that will feed the whole family for only $3.50! I will use the rest of the veg I was going to put in pasta to make up some sort of veggie dish... a green pepper, broc slaw, tomatoes, a bit of onion.. I can add some Parm. Chs., Italian Seasoning and garlic to that... I also have the last three ears of corn (personally if I see another ear of corn I will be sick)...SALAD- to take care of the last of the salad mix, the 1/4 of cuke, onion, carrots, the black beans hubby opened the other day and celery ...and my youngest is begging for scalloped potatoes...I have the last of the berries from this weekend I MUST get rid of- I am going to slice them up, serve them with ff vanilla yogurt and granola for dessert... that should just about clean out the rest of the frig.
Grilled marinated Salmon with lemon risotto and green beans. And hopefully something naughty for dessert if my beloved hunts and gathers well on his way home...
Ahhhh lacey--I want to come too! We don't have a casino anywhere close enough to just run to for the day!
ajz...maybe your 7 year old knows more about the food we eat when we go out then we do!
elston, more good ideas--thanks!
You have no idea how often my poor kids hear "you never know what the cook who cooked your food did with his hands." My hubby and I are constantly telling the kids that people can be nasty and that can affect what we eat. I have to be really careful about where I eat our too since I can get an upset tummy pretty easily. I am thinking his tummy definately knows something.

SKBS I am kinda relieved to hear you mention these grocery stores. We are considering a temporary move next May to the NOVA area for my husband's promotion and when I was asking about grocery stores these were the names I kept hearing. It will be a whole new world for me grocery shopping wise if we moved. Like I said I do the majority of my shopping at Super Walmart and the nearest one to where we would live would be 50 miles away so I will have to find somewhere new to shop.
Your roast sounds so good, you are making me hungry.
This week is a rough week so I am cooking quick foods, football practice is in full swing and dh is driving 180 miles a day this week to set in for someone in sector so dinner has to be easy to reheat. We are having the precooked chicken patties with mashed potatoes, gravy, corn and peas. Yummy I am hungry. Maybe I need to eat lunch here pretty soon.LOL
