I suppose it's technically food, but it's not good food.

It's fat, salt, and the absolute worst grade of beef that can be sold to humans. It has so much fat and salt in it that it will not decompose on it's own.

It's "food" in the same way that today's auto-tuned pop is "music."

Same Happy Meal, left out on the counter for 180 days:

Fat is composed of complex chains of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen and will break down into its elemental components without any help.

Read up on the process of decomposition/degradation sometime. It's quite fascinating.

Salt is a mineral and is more likely to dissolve than decompose.

Fast food has the exact same molecules as you would make at home. White bread is white bread. The standards for the meat might be higher than some I've seen in markets. Ketchup is ketchup. Onions are onions. Now I much prefer to fix it my way at my house but I'm not a henny penny freak looking to join a network of bashing anyone's product. Period. I did very well in chemistry. It would scare the hades out of folks if they new what was in their bodies naturally that keeps them alive and well.

Fast food IS real food in the sense that it's edible and is capable of filling you up and nourishing you, at least marginally. I do think there's been at least a small effort over the years to add to the healthful qualities of fast food, however minimal. However, coming from my position of relative privilege, I am able to see and use fast food for what it is -- something to be had on an extremely limited basis, maybe as a treat or when nothing else is available.

Taco Bell is my poison of choice -- I'm past the days of needing it at 2am to soak up the night's excess, but every so often, I just have to get some. It's never as good as I remember, but the nostalgic quality just can't be beat.
