Apologies if this has already been covered! I want to try to fry my turkey this year, but have peeps that are allergic to peanuts! So my questions- Can I use another oil? And does anyone have any info or experience with "oil-less fryers"?? Thanks for any input on this! And Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

You can use cottonseed oil or even regular vegetable oil from the market. All those oil less fryers are infrared ovens. Similar to large versions of the NuWave oven you see on all the infomercials.

If all want to do is fry, it doesn't matter much what oil you use. Unless your want to impart flavor.

Go to your local food service cash and carry or a Super Walmart, Sams' Club, Cosco or other bulk sales type place and purchase a 35lb. (4.25 gal. approx.) fryer shortening. It can be sold in a liquid or block. The liquid is about $27. and the block about $18. This what I pay at the restaurant if I have to run out to get it.

OR

go to the super market and pay big buying by the gallon.

Any cooking oil will work just fine. Use what you normally use to make your fried chicken.
