Preparation featured 66 hrs. of fasting of which 48 hrs. were rigorous field maneuvers with the National Guard. Playing soldier boy always built up a good appetite.
After the preparation came the feast which consisted of a little potato salad and a large portion of lightly breaded, plump, succulent, deep-fried sea scallops -- 5 lbs. worth in one sitting.
Yeah, 5 lbs. would never win any scallop-eating contest much less be placed in the Guinness Book of Records, but you gotta admit that the effort was a pretty strong excursion into the capital sin of gluttony.
A friend and I were in the Bahamas at a restaurant where they'd give you a certificate and put your name on the wall for eating a 64oz steak. So we both did.
Our respective golf games suffered mightily the following day.
Not me but my husband entered a challenge at 2 different restaurant's, one was at Shula's steak house, he had to finish a 48 oz. steak and 2 sides which he did finish. The other was at the cattleman steak house ( kind of like a boulder creek) They had a burger challenge, It was 12 patties, in between 2 huge buns, with cheese, 1 lb. of fries and another side dish. He got through 9 patties, 1/2 of the fries and 2 bites coleslaw, then excused himself and vomited in the men's room. He lost. If he did not have 2 pints of beer first he might have done better. When the burgers started getting cold it was harder to chew. He did not know he could get them re-heated. You had to finish this in 1 hour.

Not what I thought you'd say, after your recent whole hog thread!
Impromptu pancake eating contest with a Filipino friend. 11 1/4 after having consumed a meal prior before we both called it quits. I think I got the better of it though as I consciously chose to purge when I got home, where as he didn't make it that far.
Totally on my own - don't remember why, but one evening I ordered a pizza (large - just for me) and on the way home went to Buscemis for a big sub sandwich, and then, picked up a large bag of Bugles at the gas station....but then decided I wanted fries, so I go through the drive thru at McDonalds, and the lady at the window says something to the effect of "mmm..I smell pizza!" hungry much? [how did she know]
I got home and actually devoured all that stuff inside of an hour and remember laying on the living room floor like a beached whale.
I still don't remember what provoked that episode, but definitely an episode of bulimia nervosa or whatever ya call it.
in my early 20's at a family reunion- we had a lobsterbake- clams, lobsters, mackerel, potatoes, cooked in seaweed, the way the indians did it for thousands of years.... we would do this every summer ....
anyways, the younger men would have an eating competition, and i hold the family record for 14 lobsters,(picking the bodies too) and 2 plates of steamers,,, with about a pound of butter of course
these were hardshells, not -no meat soft-shells..
Half a cherry pie in one sitting.
I can't even blame it on a pie-eating contest.
