Yes, it was the santa claus. It had dark stripes going horizontally, and a diff shade of green, than your standard watermelon.

Oh, the canary melon. I saw that too. May try it now after your 'delightful' comment!
So many melons, so little time. lol

I saw canary melon for the first time in a store near where I work. Never heard of it before, but they had free samples, and it was SO good. The only problem is that it was only sold cut up in a container and it was ten bucks. I thought that was a bit much for melon, even in the city. Plus it's a Glatt Kosher grocery store and everything there seems higher priced. Got watermelon instead. I looked for the canary melon at the produce store near my home, but they didn't have it.

I could eat watermelon every day. I pretty much DO, actually, in season!

The 99c Only stores in our area regularly stock every type of melon for $1. They have carried types that the conventional grocery stores don't carry or rarely have. They are the best hook up for melons in our area.

I crave it all summer long - so refreshing on a hot day. I can't be bothered with the seeds, they get in the way, I love a super sweet seedless one.

I'm getting ready to try making a salad that has fresh watermelon cubes and feta cheese in it. Sounds odd, but good. I'll let you know how it is.

Add tomatoes to that salad. No, I'm NOT kidding.

What is MOST ironic about the 99 Only stores in Arizona is that they sell more specialty produce than MOST of the local major supermarkets.

Over the past year, I have purchased a number of specialty items:

Shallots
Heirloom potatoes
Purple mini-potatoes
Several variety of melons -
Organic leaf lettuce
Hydroponic leaf lettuce
prickly pears
nopales
mangos

All priced at $1.

Grocery shopping is the ONLY thing I really miss about Phoenix. . . And Happy Hours. . . And Costco being allowed to sell liquor. . . Okay, I'm done now.

I make that using arugula greens from Trader Joe's. And then I make a lime and alittle oil dressing.
It's so refreshing! Try it.

No emulsifier, like Dijon mustard?

Nope, just lime and olive oil.
I prefer just that hint of lime flavor, nothing too heavy to take away from the other flavors
I want to taste.
