A very good friend got me an air fryer for Christmas. It was very thoughtful and I am very grateful for them thinking of me.
But, isn't an air fryer just a small convection oven?
I've never heard of air fryers and did some looking and that is what I'm thinking. I have not used it yet, though. But I don't think batter fried fish is going to work too well. lol
Just wanted your opinion.
Thanks and Merry Christmas!

If so, it is called a halogen oven. During a weak moment I bought one from QVC almost a year ago. I understand they make great whole chickens and roasts. I have never used mine. I am an idiot.

My parents bought one of these and were recently telling us about how much they love it. My dad has been using it to make anything that they previously fried. Apparently you can use it for just about anything you would throw into a regular fryer. He even recently made funnel cakes. Says that the taste is great and everything they make in it is so much healthier.
The air fryer is nothing more than a concentrated toaster oven. While it works, it doesn't taste like deep fried because there's a loss of moisture. You do add oil to this but it's not enough to make fried chicken taste crispy and oily. There's something about oil that makes the shell flavorful. When there's less oil, it tastes like something is missing or dry.
It's been on my "maybe" list for quite awhile. It is on the pricey side.
