Nobody is saying GIVE UP this and that food...but be aware. I've read plenty of stories from the H&W area on people with painful kidney stones. And they wonder why.

I truly believe WE ARE WHAT WE EAT AND WE ARE WHAT WE THINK.

Lots of Stinkin Thinkin and Eatin out there...

I have kidney disease. And currently my uric acid levels are high, so my doctor told me to stop eating spinach.
Now i know why.
I, too, would eat those salads w/spinach and other greens in the plastic container thinking how healthy I was being.

No peas, spinach, cauliflower, mushrooms and more are off limits now.
And these are normally foods you would associate w/being healthy.

I guess they still are...just not now for me.

I was totally shocked to see the relation between spinach and kidney stones.

Who woulda thunk that something so inherently healthy has a bad side affect ?

I personally have NEVER had a kidney stone problem or symptom ( 56yo male )
And I recently just started eating more soinach ( raw baby spinach leaves ) this past year than I ever consumed in my life - previous 55 yrs.

Kinda makes me leary ... but I am gonna keep on with my daily spinach until I see an indication it is NOT good for me

I wonder how many oxalates are in a bunch of malarkey.

Interesting on the foods you listed, I hardly eat them. Now and then will buy a cauliflower, maybe a couple times a year, mushrooms hardly at all, I do like them. I like all the foods you list but these are not my go to foods.

Making a pot of cabbage soup right now with onions and garlic and will add a can of progresso soup to top it off.

What a coinkedink...I was thinking abt making some cabbage soup too.

Now that my parents are both deceased, I've taken on the roll of making some of our fam's favorite dishes that our Mother used to make.
It's a cabbage soup w/onions, meat and lots of lemon. Some stewed tomatoes too.

It's certainly discouraging. After 3 kidney stone episodes, you kind of feel like, what is there left to eat? All the healthy foods have some problem. Prior to the first episode, I was juicing like crazy and felt so healthy with all the greens, etc.

So now I don't drink ice tea anymore, no more spinach and few other greens, rarely drink beer, no soy, almost no chocolate. But my understanding is that the correlation between foods and kidney stones is not that clear. Some just have a propensity to develop them (like me). SIGH. What are ya gonna do?

Appreciated reading the article.

I'll stick to what my body has adjusted to. Perhaps it's more to do with combination.
I enjoy iron foods and lean greens . Let me guess .....this is to get kids to not eat their veggies...

My gastroenterologist is my go to...along with the nutritionist ....I'll have to ask them about this...I'm sure this isn't a one size fits all....

I buy a bag or a box of fresh spinach every week, & I have no plans to stop doing so. Had a spinach frittata for lunch.
