Cooked is my preference. But it isn’t much more work to offer raw.

I like it with kraut and mustard. Also, get kaiser rolls instead of hot dog buns.

What doesn't go with brats? Mac and cheese, macaroni salad, potato salad, stuff like that for sides. Or beans. Or chili, for that matter.

And, of course, beer, although a good hearty red wine goes with brats as well, IMHO.

As far as dressings for the brats, me, I like kraut, maybe some raw or cooked onions. Maybe some mustard. I personally don't care for ketchup on them, I put ketchup on dogs when I was a kid, but anymore I skip it. I don't make that preference into a philosophical point, though, if you want ketchup on yours, go ahead, we can still be friends. Relish if you want it, although again to me it does not need to be sweet relish - dill is good.

A local hot-dog shop offers the "Seattle" dog - fried onions and cream cheese on it. That sounds a bit weird, but I found it to be quite good.

The actual name is bratwurst, so it's brat for short. Rhymes with hot.

I like Dijon mustard and onions - white, sometimes chopped raw, sometimes cooked down. I'll also toss a little celery salt on them.

But that's just me. It's all about what you like. And despite what some people will claim, there are no wrong answers.

On the brat itself? Some mustard (spicy brown or dijon work very well IMO), and kraut. Or caramelized onions.

On the side? any of the classic "BBQ" sides (potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans, mac & cheese...). I like potato salad and coleslaw myself.

To wash it all down? A nice, cold beer of course .

Anything that goes on hotdogs. Kraut, mustard, relish, onions.
