My MIL used to make my kids chocolate chip pancakes, with Hershey's Syrup, for breakfast.......My DD has requested I do NOT carry on that tradition......
I'm going to have to go out on a limb here and tell you that I would put BOTH nutmeg and cinnamon in my french toast!
The best french toast ever is with thick slices of that soft french bread from the market, soaked in cream, eggs, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a touch of sugar.

I like to use "day old" french bread. Nice thick slices. Nutmeg, cimamin, and vanilla!! In New York we used Italian bread but in New Orleans it's French.

I agree.. day or two old bread is better than fresh. After all, french toast comes from the French "pain perdu," or lost bread.
I usually make it when I have half a loaf of french bread over from serving my mom's beef and mushroom stew.
I just bought the "real" maple syrup at Costco...you guys are certainly putting me in the mood!
