Now I'm kind of glad everything was shut down and we couldn't go out to dinner for my birthday. Got an e-mail today from our caviar and truffle supplier that these lovely things were on special for a very, very reasonable price, so called up Dogboa to see where he was working today and told him I wanted them for my birthday. Didn't expect to get so many and so soon. They smell heavenly. Now to decide what to have first.

Oh, they are from Bemka House of Caviar in Fort Lauderdale, FL, if anybody is interested.

I wish you a very Happy Birthday, Medtran! It doesn't get much better than good caviar and champagne! Lucky you. I hope you enjoy it.

Thank you lubby!

Caviar is a food that is polarizing. People either tend to love it or want absolutely nothing to do with it. Obviously, it is salty and has some fishy taste to it. It also "pops" when you bite down and some people are put off by that. I hate to say this, but price does matter because the more expensive ones are just better, but that tends to be a lot of money for something you might hate, so...

The first caviar I ever had was flying fish roe on sushi. You could always try that as it's pretty inexpensive and is not real fishy tasting like a lot of cheaper caviars are. If you like salmon, you can try some salmon roe caviar. That is pretty inexpensive as well. Domestic caviar is also going to be cheaper than imported and some of the domestic caviars use the same sturgeon as the better Russian caviars. Just don't get caviar from Asia or China.
