I've never been big on beef, I really dislike the smell of beef cooking unless it on a grill . A burger, or a shaved philly cheese steak sandwich takes care of my occasional urges. I'm more into seafood or pork. OTOH my daughter probably has ground beef in her recipes at least 3x a week, chili, spaghetti, tacos, casseroles, etc.
Right now I have a crockpot full of traditional gulash going. Meat and onions 1:1, caraway, salt, pepper, hot Hungarian peppers and homemade tomatoe/pepper paste. See you tomorrow. Comfort food of the finest.
Personally I grew up without beef and learned to eat it as gulash, sugo or in mixed meatloaf. A steak does not happen.
I miss out access to venison. But - it is not going to happen here in OK for us.
I eat steaks 3-4 times weekly. Mostly ribeyes and porterhouses. Red meat in some form basically every day. Tomorrow’s dinner will be porterhouse #3 in the last 7 days.
I split a cow with friends every 2-3 months, like clockwork. My wife and kids barely eat it so most of it goes down my trap.
We picked up the latest cow this past Tuesday. I’m good for a few weeks.
You may be right. I know people in Montana, a lot of folks, that buy and eat 1/2 a beef annually. That's a lot of beef. This is a beef and potato state for sure.
I remember going to a farm in Northeastern PA with mom and dad when I five years old to buy half a cow. That didn't make sense to me at that age. That was probably a good thing.
I got to pet cows, the family dog, and feed chickens. That half cow fed a family of six for quite a long time.
I now eat red-meat mainly in the form of liver, sometimes hamburger, 2 to 5 times a week. I also buy
cheek-meat, but even that has gone way up in price. Cow-tongue, HA, $8 a pound now.
I like other red-meat like steak, but the cost now is prohibitive.
We eat some type of beef dish several times a week. Mostly ground beef but I scored a great deal on chuck roast lately so I stocked up. I plan to can a lot of it.
We do have chicken and pork as well, but we prefer using beef for meatballs, stuffed peppers, meatloaf, stuffed cabbage, cheeseburgers, tacos, etc.
The 12% mentioned earlier doesn't seem accurate to me - I don't see beef products languishing on the shelves when shopping, so someone must be eating it.
I prefer beef for its high protein content. I don't get nearly the miles off of chicken, fish, pork, ham.
I buy packages of Corned beef, put it in the slow cooker, and I put chunks of it in plastic bags, freeze it, and take out a bag, now and then, and I nibble on it for the protein kick. Even a few nibbles can go a long way.
My retired friends bought 80# of chicken tenders and split it with a neighbor. About $1. a pound. How in gods name do 2 old people use up 40# of chicken tenders? I’d rather pay more and get fresh ones.

Quite easily actually.
Fried chicken tenders
Chicken salad
Chicken noodle soup
Chicken pot pie
Chicken laab
Chicken Tiki masala
Thai curry
Chicken stir fry
Chicken chow mein
40# is a three months supply, max.
Personally, we are eating a lot more pork as it is cheaper than chicken.
