I know this post is from the start of this thread...but I grew up cutting those little gerkins.
I still use them, but sometimes use sweet relish for tater salad.
This Summer I made fridge dill pickles...man oh man... did they turn out good. Easiest thing I have ever made. Only thing is you can only have them in your fridge up to 6 months.
Watch out vlasic.... mine were as good if not better than yours.
