I was just wondering what type of apples does everyone use for their homemade apple pies. I use Granny Smith apples for mine.

I used to use MacIntosh (that's what most people in my neck of the woods used), then I tried a combo of a couple different varieties and now use strictly G. Smiths.

I always use a mix of sweet and tart apples. Granny Smith and Golden Delicous or Braeburn and Cameo...

When I lived in Ohio I used macintoshes/granny smiths. Since I have been here in Tx I haven't seen macs down here so I have been using golden delicious and granny smiths.

Granny Smith's absolutely. They're availability is wide because they travel well. Macintosh and similar red apples don't travel as well but the GS by far has the best flavor for apple pies. Cheers!
