Ok, it's the holiday season. Let's just go ahead and get rid of the big ol' elephant in the room (and no, I'm not talking about my butt). I'm talking about fruitcakes. Are you for them? Do you love them to death? Can't imagine the holidays w/o some fruitcake and coffee?

Do you hate them? Do you use them to hold open your doors, kick around when you've lost your soccer ball, etc?

I don't mind them if they have more fruit and no citron-and soaked really well in brandy or rum. With additional spirits poured over.

It wouldn't be the holiday season without ye olde doorstop..uh, I mean fruitcake.

They can also double as a brick when needed.

I'm not even fond of Applesauce cake! I want my cakes to have sugar, and more sugar--no fruit in sight!
Even Cheesecake is better without a "fruit" topping, IMO!

I love a good fruitcake. I love the fruit with the saltiness and crunch of the nuts along with the stiff cake consistancy. My ex MIL used to make a variation with softer cake texture and a cream cheese frosting on it that was soaked in rum and cured for days. It was good but too rich.

I'm with Lacey - can't stand citron. Or marischino cherries, unless they're in my manhattan! Give me a devil's food cake any day.

My mother makes a fruit cake with homemade jellies and perserves that is great. I can't stand the storebought kind.
