As is so often the case, my reply is "it depends."

If I'm feeling cozy and warm indoors, watching the cold winds howl outdoors and smelling something wonderful baking/roasting/stewing (doesn't matter which) in the kitchen, I love a glass of ice-cold eggnog with a ****** of good bourbon and a sprinkle of freshly grated nutmeg over the top. Home-made eggnog is best, though decadent, and a rare and special treat.

On the other hand, if I've had a long afternoon of sledding in the cold, hiking up hill and over dale looking for the perfect Christmas tree, or removing 6 inches or so of snow from the looooong driveway, and I'm chilled to the bone with numb ears and nose, frigid fingers and toes, and my legs feel like logs made from ice, then I want a big mug brim-full of rich hot chocolate, made with whole milk, if you please, with a bit of vanilla, a shake of cinnamon and a ****** of rum stirred in. Top that baby with a dollop of whipped cream, give me my wool throw and a good book, and I'm a happy, happy camper.

plain old Lipton tea with a teeny bit of milk and 1 1/4 spoons of sugar.

one of the most comforting things I have ever known.

Us Ruskies have a good, hot tea...

Tea bags-preferably black tea
orange juice
lemon juice
whole cloves
cinnamon
sugar
and, of course, a good vodka...

Place cloves in water in a large saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and add tea bags; let stand until tea is strong, then remove tea bags. Add orange and lemon juices and sugar, and stir to dissolve sugar. Add vodka to taste, and serve hot. Better if made in advance and aged 24 hours, then reheated (add vodka just before serving).

What is Old Crow?
Old Crow is a Kentucky bourbon. Not real expensive, but was popular years ago.

Happy trails,

That stuff sounds good. I live in an area of CA where the weather is virtually the same year round. I don't think the winter drink "experience" would really work here. If anything, I enjoy the winter seasonals from a handfull of CA breweries. Like Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale or Anchor Christmas Brew or Santa's Private Reserve from Rogue (they're from Oregon).

Favorite hot "adult" beverage: Tom and Jerries

Favorite hot "regular" beverage: Creamy, not too sweet hot cocoa. Just had some "European Hot Cocoa" at Starbucks yesterday. yum. Expensive, but worth an occasional treat.

Those are two different things for me. When it's cold outside and I want something nice and hot to drink, it would be a coffee, tea or hot chocolate.

After dinner I'd probably skip the coffee. I might add a liquor or some cream or something to the drink, like hot chocolate with some Kahlua or tea with lemon, cinnamon, light rum or Grand Marnier.

Sometimes I'd just like a Cognac.
