I used to get them often when I lived in Chicago, I grew up in an Irish and Jewish neighborhood. We were up in Chicago to see my kids at Christmas and had some latkes at a deli there.
My wife is from Philly and she makes excellent latkes.
Yep, they're REALLY good. Our neighbors and good friends when I was growing up were Jewish and the mom made awesome latkes. She knew I loved them and would always bring me over some.
I love them! I am not Jewish, but we eat them during Lent on Fridays.... they are perfect since they fill you up and you can't eat meat on Fridays during Lent.... Sour Cream and ton of pepper and salt.... oh, so good. Love them...........
I know someone who made them and cooked them in bacon grease. I think that's sacrilege.
Not sacrilege...just put some in the cooking oil to flavor, and I add grated or finely chopped onions and peppers to mine with the sour cream....
