I am wondering how many chefs out there get PO'd about your complaint on the food they just prepared for you. Think they do things to your new food order?

I don't know, but we were on Edisto Island last week and I ordered a hamburger and asked for "well done." When it arrived almost raw, I just wrapped it up and took it back to our condo and put it in the microwave for a minute. I have heard too many stories to send food back.

Probably depends on who's cooking the food.

If it is a trained chef, the probability of tampering is very low to nonexistent. I worked in some upscale restaurants in college and the staff would NEVER do something to a customer's food.

When I was in high school and worked at the local pizza joint... I can't say those kids were as scrupulous.

Just think Dominoe's Pizza and multiply that by 10. I'm only kidding..It really depends on the place....and your attitude.

Also depends on if theres any witnesses . If its a solitary cook, he can get into mischief. If it's a couple of them then probably not. i worked at a restaurant as a waitress and I could watch them cook so they were S.O.L. on revenge there.

I have heard kids talk about things that have gone on in kitchens where they either worked in the back or were servers . . . heard stories since I was in college (first hand f/ restaurant workers) . . . and it has really made me very hesitant to complain. If I do have something terribly wrong, I will be very kind and humble about it and ask the server what I should do - trying to get him/her "on my team" so that they are gonna take some responsibility about how my order is treated b/f it reaches the table. But I am very hesitant to do this. Usually, I just get through it - and don't go back.

A burger that accidently came out with cheese often will just have the cheese scraped-off and then put back on the grill to disguise the cheese remains......if that's happened to me once, it's happened 20 times.

Problem is, there's usually a tell-tale piece still stuck to the side of the burger.....and (albeit false) warnings of "I could die from eating cheese" make little difference in some joints.

I waited tables for 10 years and it always made me laugh when people were afraid to send their food back b/c they thought we would spit in it. the sweet customers who would admit that to me were the last people who would have to worry about such things.

Good rule of thumb: if you are polite and respectful to anyone who is helping you - server, customer service agent or otherwise, they will be polite and respectful to you. If you want to be a jerk, chances are you will be treated like one...

good points.

One thing I do avoid though, as a former server and bartender, is coming in 5 minutes before closing. That's asking for subpar at best.
