I assume it has something to do with mineral content, but I have no idea. I drink regular tap water, but some times it tastes completely different than others - sweet, clean and delicious.
I don't know what kind of water you're drinking Is the glass clean or does it have remnants of soda or something sweet in it? There aren't any minerals that come to mind that would have a sweet taste.

Tap water is always variable, because the city source of water varies from season to season, and the city needs to adjust its processing according to the particular needs at that time, Or, doesn't adust processing, so the source water will vary in content.
It can also depend on factors within yourself. Water will taste different to you at different times of day, according to the chemistry inside your mouth. The length of time since the tap has been turned on can have an effect, since the plumbing in your house is not uniform in composition, and different chemicals can be imparted to your water from the pipes near your faucet, which will vary according to the length of the exposure.
It can also be affected by what you are drinking from. I don't like drinking water from a glass that has been washed in an automatic dishwasher, because the type of soap used in them often leaves a residue that I can detect.
I'd say it's your mouth. I've noticed that the same bottle of water will taste sweet at times, depending on what (or if) I've eaten, how thirsty I am, etc.
Thanks for the replies - I never thought about it having to do with body chemistry, time of day, what I've eaten, etc.
The water around here isn't bad, for tap water. I've noticed in other places (Georgia, Texas notably) the water smells "peppery" is the best way I can describe it, due to the mineral content, but it tastes fine to me.
I found that if you have rust in your tap water it can give a sweet taste to the water... I have a water softener system and have added pellets made by Morton that reduces the rust in the water... I find I have less rust stains on fixtures and appliances... I no longer have that sweet taste, but just cool, clean water.
