I own a 07 F-150 FX2 with the 5.4L V8. I have about 82,000 miles on it. My previous F-150 was a 2005 F-150 with the 4.2L V6. This weekend, my parents took the plunge (their first truck), and bought a 2010 Lariat with the 5.4. It has 95k miles on it. Has anyone else had really good experiences with rolling high milage on these engines? I have heard nothing but good things about it.

It means there's a reason it's the number one selling truck in America. Scab trucks built in Tehas are second rate, and GM is trying to keep up with the best.

I never got much mileage out of mine .Not even 17 on highway with no load. Its a engine for towing like the 6.2 Chevy is;otherwise mostly wasted. Most have towing package with at least 3.55 rear end for that reason.

Reliability-wise, the Triton series engines (4.6, 5.4, 6.8) do real well. Just look at all the 4.6s used in Crown Vics (cop cars, taxis, etc) that take a BEATING and still run strong. Biggest issue I know of with them is the spark plug issue, but the auto industry has come up with plenty of great work-arounds for this if/when the issue arises.

Be aware that changing spark plugs on some FORD V-8 engines is a very difficult and expensive chore. The old plugs seize in the engine and break when being removed creating a very difficult repair.

Is that risk any higher in a Ford engine than any other engine?

Actually yes, they didn't have enough threads. Ford fixed it by adding more in the casting in later years. I have an 01 getting close to 100,000 miles. Even with my skills I will let someone who's done this replace mine soon.
