I owned one of those Rangers. I got 260,000 miles out of it before anything broke. But guess who built them and slap the Ford logo on them? Mitsubishi. Lol Ford hit some home runs from time to time don’t get me wrong. The F1 50, the mustang, a few others. But in between the great engineered vehicles they produce they sure make some junk. And I fear this might be the next. If I knew it was good for 250,000 miles, like a Toyota Tacoma etc.? I’d be the first in line to buy one.
Yes it was. What confuses some people is that there were US built Rangers rebadged as Mazdas. Ford owned a big chunk of Mazda until a few years ago and is still one of the company's largest shareholders.

Ford never had a partnership with Mitsubishi. Chrysler did. You had a Ford Ranger. Period. And they've made more than a handful of good cars. Hyperbole much? You made this OP to just crap on Ford. I cringe at your posts.

Time will prove me right. Wager next year when the reliability reports began coming up. It won’t get more than 2 stars.

The Mazda pickup and the Ranger were the same. Vehicle in the 90s. The Mazda was few thousand cheaper. Mazda made engines, transmissions and other parts for Ford for a while.

That’s exactly what I was referencing only I worded it wrong. I had that old two door stripped down version of a Ford ranger and yes it had the Mazda engine transmission in it. That thing ran forever.
I will say after 100% looking over the Maverick. It is clearly a sedan with a trunk without a lid. That’s what this is. To get it out the door you’re looking at around 25,000 for the base model. Give or take based on your state and area. So I ran some numbers.
Three major components to this truck. Do you have the battery, the transmission and the gas powered engine. Each of which to replace per factory specifications will cost you in excess of $5000. So you darn well better hope those three components last at least a couple hundred thousand miles. I can guarantee you the battery portion will not. You’re going to drive this vehicle probably 80 to 100,000 miles and the battery will need to be replaced at which time you will have to ask yourself if dumping another $5000 into a throwaway vehicle is worth it. Let’s do some side-by-side numbers.
To get a V6, four-door, 4 x 2 comparably equipped Toyota Tacoma out the door you’re looking at around 34,000. Keep in mind this is much more of a truck than this Maverick is. The Maverick out the door you’re looking at 25,000. A lot less truck with a lot less capability.
In 10 years the maverick will be used up gone in a junkyard somewhere. It won’t be worth the $6000 it takes to replace the battery. Your Tacoma will probably have somewhere between 180 and 220,000 miles on it and still running strong. If you took care of it you can still sell it between 16 and $18,000. Netting over half your money back.
Ford makes too many throwaway vehicles and that’s what this is.
