I recently went to an auction and won the bid on a very inexpensive property. No real estate agent involved. Im set on buying the property and would like to keep the closing costs at minimum. My questions is "Is It Mandatory To Hire A Real Estate Attorney To Officially Buy a House in Illinois?"

Not knowing the answer to this question... by default makes the answer a YES.

Even if the specific law and process doesn't require the services of an attorney in Illinois...
YOU need to have an attorney to advise you and be available in these basic and the more involved matters that can (and WILL) come up.

I see that you also asked this question on Zillow, and the overall response from those in Illinois was that it is not mandatory, but highly recommended and is normal for most transactions there.

If your inexpensive amount is an amount you're willing to lose to save a few bucks then go ahead.

Use of an attorney in Illinois is customary, not compulsory.

Honestly the steps to recording the deed and paying transfer fees are quite simple. The procedures are basically the same in every county.

That said you have to either be very patient and like reading "legalese" which is often gobbleygook, as well as be the kind of person to willing wait "in the slow lane" as more experienced souls get in & out OR just find a good lawyer who "knows the ropes" and given them a couple hundred for the trouble:
