i am relocating from arkansas to florida!
i have only been to orlando to visit mickey once in a while and to miami to visit miami beach.
here is what is most important to me right now:
- i would like to know which are safe areas in sunrise or nearby locations that are nice and safe.
- i am interested in buying a home (3be/2.5 ba) for <$350K in a location that is not full of foreclosures but has an neighborly feel to it.
- my current commute to work is ~ 8 minutes. i know that is not realistic in florida, but would like to avoid long commutes as much as possible.
- i will not take my furniture, but have rugs and paintings i would like to move (good idea?)
thank you for your guidance.

I would recommend posting this in the Fort Lauderdale Forum for the most/best responses. You might also try a search using the term Sunrise or Moving to Sunrise. Here's a couple of threads I found already...

You might seriously consider Weston. It's safe and upscale and you should be able to find something there in your price range (there are several Weston residents/experts who post regularly and can provide more specifics if they see this). Is your job in Sunrise? Your commute from Weston probably would be more than eight minutes but less than 20 minutes, depending on where in Sunrise you're going to.

$350K will buy you a nice 3BR, maybe 4BR townhouse in Weston. And there are a handful of single family homes in this price range too.

Given a choice, I would go for a nicer townhouse for this money.

For example this one:

Will you be working in Sunrise? Is this the reason why you picked Sunrise? Do you have school age kids? If yes, will they be attending public or private school? For many reasons, Sunrise would not be near the top of my list of preferred places to live. The sole exception would be the part of it just to the north and west of Sawgrass Mills.

Where are you planning to work? With that kind of budget, I'm thinking what you're looking for is definitely doable depending on where you're actually going to living. I know of a great community in West Sunrise, and there are a few homes on the market there. I'd be happy to send them over to you.

thank you so much for this reply. we are moved in and have hear that weston may be a good location for us. in the past, i would simply drive around on a sunday looking for open houses to get an idea of the age of the homes and neighborhoods. i've found that not too many open houses are done in weston/sunrise. i do not want to commit to a realtor yet. what developments would you recommend in weston?

How about a townhouse in Plantation? It is a nice city close to everything and has a family feeling. Check the Jacaranda area.
