Does anyone know...is a taxi the only way to get from the Ft. Lauderdale airport to Deerfield Beach or is there some type of shuttle available? And if a taxi IS the only way...how much would it cost?

Thanks!

Vicki

A taxi would cost an arm and a leg. But it is by far your quickest option.

You could take the Tri-Rail train from downtown Fort Lauderdale to Deerfield Beach. But you would need transportation to/from the tri-rail on each end.

You could also take the city bus which runs along US1. I believe it is Route #10, but don't quote me on it. You can look up the city bus times/schedules and stops by googling Broward Transit and click on buses/fares. The bus is very cheap, only about $1.50 in evenings. Not sure how much during daytimes.

There's a Tri-Rail station quite near FLL: the Cypress Creek station, a 6-minute drive away (says Google Maps), so it would about $10 including tip to get you from FLL to the Tri-Rail (Taxi Fare Finder Miami - Estimate Your Taxi Cab Fare, Cost & Rates . The map is cursed, but you can use the fare info + Google Maps to calculate the estimated fare yourself). The Tri-Rail up to Deerfield would be $3.75 ( South Florida Regional Transportation Authority ). Then just add the cab fare to where you're going in Deerfield.

For the record, I'm a newcomer from a city where public transit is widely-used so I always like to give trains/buses a chance. I rode the Tri-Rail from Ft. Lauderdale down to Miami and back last week and if you're not in a rush to get anywhere, the train is very pleasant!

The biggest issue I have is that I have to go from the airport directly to a person's home so the bus or train may not be my best option.

I did find out a taxi is about $60, if anyone else wants to know. I also found out there is a shuttle that cost $18 but it makes a few stops along the way, depending on how many others are in the shuttle. Thus far, this may be my best option.

Has anyone used this?

Vicki

Vicki, how long are you staying for?

A taxi would be more than $60. You also have to tip the driver. The bus would be the cheapest way, but not very efficient unless the person you are visiting lives right off of US1.

You may be best off renting a car if you're only staying a day or two. It would be cheaper than getting a cab. Is there any way the person you're visiting could pick you up at the Tri Rail station? Tri Rail is actually a pretty easy quick way to get from Ft. lauderdale to Deerfield.

FLL Airport has a shared-ride shuttle called Go Airport which should be much cheaper than a cab. My experience with it has been good. Call 800-244-8252 for information and reservations.
