Where would you choose to live in Broward? Backstory: Used to live in Coral Springs, moved to ATL and coming back to S Florida in the summer... I think I want to be closer to Ft Lauderdale so thinking about the Davie/Cooper City/Pembroke Pines area... have young kids so good schools are priority. In terms of house, yard space is probably the priority so these kids can get out of my hair! Thanks.

Well, sure... if I were single or had no kids... I meant, where would you live given my status... married w/ 3 young children?

I am not in your shoes but pretty close as we are looking a new home for our self as well. You are certainly in the right direction since we have also narrowed down to those cities (plus Plantation). You really won't go wrong with any of the above mentioned areas for most part.... Just depends where you work and more importantly what is your budget and what are looking to buy (bedrooms, bath, pool etc).

I can tell you my first choice would probably be Cooper City but we will probably end up in Plantation since it seems to have better price point at the moment.

I really like Plantation but am worried about the school there... I know some of them are A-rated but I don't give that much credence in S Florida... also concerned about the congestion of PP...

Cooper City and Davie seem to be the best areas for families that are closest to Ft. Lauderdale. Plantation is good if you don't have kids, because the schools aren't great there. There is nowhere closer to Fort Lauderdale with good schools. The Eastern suburbs have been relegated to young singles and retirees these days.

When we moved here we settled in Weston and then wound up in Plantation (kids in private school for 6-12). If I had to do it again I would have moved to Plantation right off the bat. I really like living in Plantation. It's much more centrally located than Weston.

I really do like Plantation as well... have some good friends there but I don't want to shell out for private school. Any thoughts on Cooper City? Reviews seem to be all over the map.

If you choose wisely in Plantation you can get through middle school (make sure you are zoned for Seminole Middle not Plantation Middle). Most of the elementary schools in Plantation are ok.

I don't like Cooper City. There is no specific thing that I can put my finger on that makes me not like it but I can just not see myself living there.

Regarding schools-none of the public schools are all that great although they are better in some places than others. They are better in Weston than any of the other places that you mention. If school really is the single most important consideration I would save yourself some trouble and concentrate on Weston. Cooper City schools are ok but they do not compare with Weston.

Cooper City has great schools, but has more of a country-ish feel than other suburbs which is why some don't like it. Many will tell you that you get the most bang for your buck in Cooper City because schools are great and housing is affordable. It is also more centrally located than Weston or Coral Springs.
