Is this a South Florida thing? Looking for places to live in and came across a condo within a hotel?!

Hotels in Fort Lauderdale, Florida - Gallery ONE - DoubleTree Suites Hotel

Can anyone clue me in as to whether this is a common practice? Is this kind of living arrangement recommended? Is that particular hotel in a decent area? How does this compare to living in a more conventional high rise? (say, Nu River and others mentioned in this link? //www.city-data.com/forum/fort-...buildings.html)

Thanks for the help

Yep, very common. Are you buying or renting?

Usually more exclusive hotels do the condo/hotel thing (Ritz, W, Trump, etc). But I guess Doubletree decided to get into it too.

This is the Eastern end of Sunrise Blvd - a very nice area. Right next to the Galerria Mall with a bunch of nice stores and restaurants. Water taxis on the Intracoastal can take you to a lot of other places. And the beach is across the bridge, very nice beach.

Hey, I am from NYC too. Well, first from Moscow. Then from NYC. Well, first Moscow, then a place in Siberia, then Moscow, then NYC. 80th and York, then 39th and 1st. Then Weston, FL.

Anyway, the condo/hotel concept works pretty well. You have all the hotel's amenities and services, but you get to live in your own apartment (if you buy one that is).

They have drawbacks (if you are looking to buy one).

A. Banks won't finance them anymore
B. You cannot homestead your unit
C. Some have minimum rental days (you have to let the hotel rent your apartment so many days a year).

Sadly they aren't even good deals compared to similar condos.
