My family will be visiting your fair city in April, its been many years since I last was there. Of course we will be beaching it etc etc, but as for renting a house for a week, i saw a georgoues one in plantation right on the water. Is this far from the beaches? what about alligators (shows my ignorance)

please please chime right on in..........

thanks......

Plantation stretches far from east to west. I would say the east side homes are as close as 5 miles to the beach. The water differs too, whether you're east or west. Do you know the name of any major cross streets? Like Flamingo or University?

^^

yep, what he said.

I used to live in Plantation, great place. Some of the canals turn brackish in Plantation, so as Fauve said, it depends on where you are exactly.

House looks great - I love VRBO. It's East Plantation - about 5 miles from the beach. It's places like these that have me objecting to the stay West of University rule. You could see an alligator, but it's somewhat unlikely. They're not dangerous unless you're in the water with them (this is not the type of water you'd want to swim in). See if they'll have a boat for you, or seriously consider renting one for the week you're there. It will be well worth it. Lots of chain restaurants on University near here along with mall, Barnes & Noble, Publix (grocery store) etc., plus you'll be close to Las Olas where you'll find top of the line dining and shopping.

Plantation is a nice city. It won't take you that long to get to the beach. Don't swim in the water and you won't have any problems with the alligators. They won't chase you around or anything.

Have fun.

I think if I ever get through to these owners that they do have a small boat? Can you recommend somewhere to rent a larger boat?? nothing crazy....I was thinking that a small row boat would be too small??? to take out on the water..however if he already has one there, apparently it isnt
thanks

I'm not really a boat person, so I'm not a good one to answer this. Probably, the owners would be the perfect ones - that is, when you're able to reach them. The only thing I might be concerned about and specifically ask them is whether it would be reasonable to have a rowboat in this area - the neighboring motor boats, etc may make it an overwhelming undertaking - and you might have just as much fun fishing off of the deck. The beauty of the location of this waterfront is that you can get to the ocean, and see some interesting sights and go to restaurants along the way, but if you're not a boat person, it won't matter

Well, since the topic of alligators was brought up here (again), perhaps this is a useful question to everyone, albeit somewhat OT..........

let's say you have a yard on or near a canal or lake........and let's say you have a miniature poodle.........have dogs (or small children) been known to disappear in these areas?
