Miami actually saw one of the largest increases in tourism this past year, so if you're saying tourism is down, that's a complete lie. Actually, Miami is now the 3rd-most visited city in the U.S. by foreigners.

Well, they're not in Orlando. We just got back from the Royal Pacific at Universal and the hotel and park were empty compared to times past. If it wasn't for an American medical conference at the hotel, it would have been deserted. We walked on rides all day rarely pulling out our express passes, and were able to get tables without reservations everywhere.

well to be fair that tourism analysis is from last year. It will be interesting to see how tourism holds up with a global economic slowdown under way.

So FL is a tourist area, people don't have money to travel so no tourists
also construction was big in this area..no new houses being built so many many people have LOST their jobs

Foreclosure can't pay the mortgage
Eviction can't pay the rent..need income for both
Tourist economy is HUGE right now. The weak dollar makes it very inexpensive for foreigners to travel to the US and they are coming here in record numbers. There is a world outside the US.

Problem with that theory is, right now the world outside the U.S. is also experiencing a economic slow down. Brits are notorious for going to Orlando (Disney) and their economy in some regards is worse off their ours right now. So will this trend hold true? We shall see at the end of the year when the numbers are in.

Maybe Canada can prop us up, I don't think they are as bad off as U.S., Europe and soon to be Asia.

While it's true that there is a global slowdown it is extremely inexpensive for Europeans to visit the US right now so unless there is a full blown global depression we will continue to see an increase in foreign visitors to the US (not just FL).

That is incorrect. It does not need to be a depression in order for people to stop traveling. If their economies go into a recession (which they are), energy prices continue to increase (which they are) and people lose jobs (which they will) then guess what? People wont have the money to travel here, its that simple. Will international travel stop? Probably not, but it will be constrained given the above conditions.
