Hi guys - We're watching Hurricane Ike here in Ft.Lauderdale/Miami area with great caution.

The current paths do not bode well for us so far. As of 11am, the models show the storm going both north and south of us. The official paths split the difference and direct the storm in our general area.

Unless the storm passes us with quite a bit of distance, we need to watch this storm carefully because of it's sheer size and predicted strength.

This weekend is your chance to make preparations, put up some of your shutters, and gather supplies so that you're not scambling at the last minute. IF the storm is eventually forecast for a direct hit, make plans now as to whether you will stay or leave and prepare your property.

Be sure to get important documents into one location so that you can take them with you in the event you do need to leave.

Even if the storm misses us altogether, it's always better to be safe than sorry. Preparation, not panic, is what keeps us safe here in South Florida.
Saying a prayer it misses us by a long shot!!

I am still asking myself WHY I still live here!
We can't go (move) anywhere for at least a year though.

Now for those of you in the Ft. Lauderdale/Miami area, do you plan to leave should Ike strike the area? If not, why? Is it recommended that the entire city evacuate in a storm like this, or just those in evacuation zones?

I'm new here, but when I lived in Deltona in my parents' house we never left. Here though, sunrise, apartment complex, I'd leave for a strong cat 3

When a major hurricane does hit Miami a lot of people will be saying the same thing as they all run for the state line.

That's not official.. it's a 5 day track, it could change tomorrow.. but it is definitely looking grim. From most of the models it is showing a hit of a cat3 around the miami area.

Now they're saying Cat 2.
*fingers crossed* for a Cat 2 and that it stays in the open Atlantic never affecting anyone!
