Don't forget Stan's, TJ's, both on Commercial and Brother Jim's, and the Hut. After they closed for the night, everyone went to the Chateau Madrid! Those were the days!

Bryan Norcross is now Chief Meterologist and Hurricane Expert on The Weather Channel.

Sadly, Ann Bishop passed away several years ago from cancer.

Yes, I've seen Norcross on the Weather Channel. For some reason he always looks a little sad when I've seen him. I still think he got a raw deal from the station he worked for during Hurricane Andrew. It's like they went berserk because he was considered something of a hero. That was my impression, anyway.

Ann Bishop was a South Florida broadcasting icon.

They had a show on PBS the other night about radio disc jockeys from the 1940s/1950s to the present. Rick Shaw was one of the people interviewed and featured. They also featured at bit on Robey Yonge, who got his start in Florida, made a name for himself in New York during the 1960s/1970s, sort of got in trouble and then broadcast from South Florida. I met him briefly in the 1980s when he was doing some voice work for a client. Quite a character. Very talented, though.

I love reminiscing about life in Broward in this iconic thread, but on a serious note, what do the folks think about Broward today? Has the area changed for the better or worse, and how?

Please be honest in your opinions.

I think much of Broward has sunk to ghetto status......I lived there for 18 years and even areas that were ok back then are rough now. The immigrants/poverty has really taken a toll on the county as a whole. Highlights are really on the newer gated subdivisions in Weston/Davie/Parkland and of course the expensive waterfront. Coral Springs 30 years ago was what Weston is today yet today Coral Springs is crap. It seems it has become a suburbia wasteland of bad strip centers, tacky development. Even the financial district on Broward Blvd is a block from the ghetto. Lots of interesting characters loitering in that area 24/7!

Unless I could live in the Harbor Beach area (behind Pier 66), I don't think I would want to live in any part of Broward County.

I could not agree more with your response. Dan Marino and Huizenga along with other wealthy, classy people all live behind Pier 66, the best area for sure. What a shame Fort Lauderdale has become, however most folks do not realize this because they are new to the area or have not done due diligence to really study the area. I think sadly, Broward can only get worse unfortunately.

Marino moved?

Went to a party of his back sometime around 85-90?, and it was in Weston.
(saddlebrook road If I remember correctly?)

I had a home over in the Isle of Venice area back then.
Beautiful area, nice homes on the water.
