Because if he stays north of Griffin, he is closer to Nova. It is true that there are some nice parts south of Griffin, but the commute would be further. There are a bunch of apartment communities around Nova, and further west. That includes west of University Dr. I mentioned he can go further west, even West Davie out towards I-75 or in Sunrise. But in the interest of staying close to Nova, I recommended the areas I did.

Okay, that makes sense, I thought you were suggesting that it was a crappier area!

East of 95 is nice, as long as youre all the way at the beach, which will be about a 20-30 min drive to Nova, depending on how far south or north of 595 you are. (595 is the dividing line basically of north and south broward.. and runs all the way to US1 where the airport is..)

There's lots of little communities west of University, south of 595 (and even north of, around the Plantation, Cleary area) that are decent. There's also lots of little apt complexes literally surrounding Nova, that you should have no issues finding. Check out craigslist too. Might find someone who is renting privately, without a realtor. Hope this makes sense! Broward is a giant grid.

I see no advantage of him living east, because he'd have to live all the way near the beach. And he doesn't care about the beach. He cares more about living near Nova. In that case, there are plenty of affordable options around Nova or within a mile or two. Like I said, the best areas to live are north of Griffin, west of the Turnpike, and East of Flamingo Road. But don't be afraid to look in Plantation which is above 595, but a very short commute.
