Ok, I hear your pain. First off, LCEC is a CO-OP, which means "We the people have the right to be heard" So for starters, NO they will not help you! I have the same situation and now they are demanding a deposit of 900.00 dollars (I refuse to pay that, I will pay my normal bill period!) which is bogus too. The street light, your friends should call and request it be taken off their bill, which they are allowed to do, I did this when I got tired of paying for the light. Also, we all have to go down to the meetings and demand that things change! Why is it that we can not have another electric company supply us? There are alot of us who are new to the area and had no idea that we have the right to vote out those on the board. We have the POWER to change things and make enough noise to be heard! If we really want to we can do it. I just read about a man who refused to pay the deposit and they LCEC shut his power off he back in 2009 he used a generator and then the good old boys came to give him fines for noise, tell me this is not a backwards place and needs to be changed.
They ask for donations to help those less able to pay the outrages bills, if they would take the money the steal from us on a monthly basis $15.00 a month to be exact and put it towards all those who can't pay they would have more than enough! They have taken 900.00 dollars from me alone for the past 5 years, they could use that as my deposit! How are people supposed to afford to pay if they fall behind and then pay all money due, then get a letter stating that ontop of what they pay monthly they will be getting a deposit amount added to that bill, increasing payments to over $400.00 a month? It's rediculous! But we have no one to blame but ourselves for not fighting, we need to band together and fight the fight for CHANGE!

Reminds me of a landlord I had in Ohio many moons ago. It was a brand new 6 unit townhouse complex. We found out that the sewage treatment system that the landlord had installed was on our meter. So, in order to be "fair", the landlord said we could adjust our rent by comparing the difference between our electric bill and that of a neighbor with a similar family size. OK. That worked for a few months, until we found out that the lightposts in the front of the building were tied to the other guys meter! This time when I started complaining, the landlord let us out of the lease and we happily said CYA! We didn't want any more to do with the shyster.
