Hey folks,

We just purchased a new home in Cape Coral and we trying to figure out our monthly expense budget. This will be a vacation home at first so we will not be using it for several months at a time. If anyone is in or have been in this situation would you mind sharing your monthly expenses for the unoccupied months. Services such as water and sewer, electric (no pool), alarm, lawn care, exterior pest control and lawn treatment, and home watch services.

Your neighborly advise would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!!

Our lawn guy wanted $75 a month for an annual contract. $25 per cut if no contract.

As to electric it will depend on size, where you set the thermostat. You will want the AC going to keep the humidity in the home under control. Figure $30-40 a month.

We use our place a grand total of six weeks out of the year and keep our thermostat set at 82 degrees when we are not there. Never had any problems.

LCEC says you can set the temperature to 83 degrees but the best way is to use a humidistat.

When we are not there, we set the temperature at 80 and the humidistat at 55%. Never have had a problem. But then again, the place is not empty for more than 6 weeks at a time. When we are there we set the temp at 76 and run the ceiling fans.
